Review: Aloe Cadabra Lubricant

aloe-lube.jpgWhen the makers of Aloe Cadabra Lubricant contacted me and wanted to send me a complimentary bottle, I jumped at the chance to review it. Little known fact about me: I really do care about the environment and try to “go green” as often as my wallet allows. In the world of sex, going green also has a huge additional benefit - organic products are typically safer for your body. So when I found out that Aloe Cadabra is made with 95% organic aloe vera, I was on board.

That’s not to say I wasn’t skeptical. I haven’t had the best track record with lubes. I’m typically not a girl who needs much lube…I definitely make enough of my own, even if I’m not with a guy who’s amazing in bed. Of course, I do keep a bottle in the house for anal sex. Climax Bursts has been my lube of choice over the past few years. It’s a great water-based lube that doesn’t get too sticky, but my major complaint was the slightly off-putting smell. And, although it wasn’t anything like the other lubes I’ve tried, it does still make a bit of a mess. It’s not perfect by any standards, but it gets the job done.

I think I’m a convert, though. I squeezed a tiny bit of Aloe Cadabra on my finger and was instantly a LOT happier with the smell of this lube than Climax Bursts or any of the other lubes I’ve used in the past. I have the Natural Aloe version, and there’s barely any scent at all, other than a kind of clean, right-after-the-rain smell. In other words, it smell slightly like aloe. I shouldn’t be too surprised about that I guess, but I’m so used to lubes smelling a bit chemical or overly scented that this was a pleasant surprise.

But really, I can overlook a slight smell with anything if it gets the job done well, so the real test for Aloe Cadabra is whether or not it it is effective as a lube. I noticed right away that it wasn’t watery and didn’t melt on my fingers like you’ll find with some lubes. I used a bit on one of my favorite sex toys and wooooooow. It made it really slick, but was thick enough to stay on the toy, rather than dripping down the sides.

The best thing about Aloe Cadabra, though, is easily how soft it made my skin. After I put some on my vibe, I just rubbed the rest into my hands like lotion. It might as well have been hand lotion, actually - it didn’t leave my skin sticky at all. All of the tender bits downstairs responded pretty much in the same way. Although I did have to reapply, it was absorbed into my skin, making it softer as I kept playing. I can only imagine how nice that would feel on a bare cock. For the record, it’s a condom-safe lube, so if you’re using protection, you can still use this product without compromising the condom.

Aloe Cadabra has no harsh chemicals, and according to its creators, Rinaldo and Lalla Brutoco of Seven Oaks Farms, it doesn’t encourage yeast and bladder infections, as you’ll find with some other kinds of lubes. The ranch where the aloe is grown is sustainable and certified organic, and the lube doesn’t contain anything that typically irritates skin, so it’s perfect for those who are a bit sensitive to most types of lubes. I can’t speak for the French Lavender or Tahitian Vanilla scents, but the Natural Aloe version was about as perfect as a lube can get, in my opinion.

Thumbs up on this one. Aloe Cadabra is around $8 for a 2.5 ounce bottle (which is comparable to most other lubes on the market), and you can pick it up through the company’s website. At the time I’m publishing this post, it’s even on sale for 20% off; I’m not sure how long that deal will last, so grab a bottle today to try it out yourself.

Interesting @ the no smell aspect. I’ve tried several lubrications throughout the years and one of the things I’ve always disliked is the scent. It’s never been something offensive offhand but once you get close enough to it you can really smell it. And with sex, most of the good stuff *is* close up ;-)
