This Week’s Question: Do you have naughty dreams?

If you’re reading this blog, you probably have some naughty day dreams. But when you fall asleep at night, do you actual dreams get a little risque too? Do you have wet dreams?

I usually don’t, sadly. I wish I did!

Sometimes, I have some romantic dreams, where I’m falling in love with someone, but rarely do things get physical. At least that I can remember. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve had sex in a dream, and my memory is always really fuzzy. I don’t think they qualify as wet dreams, because I don’t wake up having orgasmed or even being really wet. Occasionally, I’ll wake up horny, but that’s about it.

I’m pretty boring I guess!

I will say that one of the naughty dreams I have had that I can remember was recently and with someone I know through work. Not a co-worker, but a colleague. In really life, I definitely think this guy is attractive, and I know he thinks I am too. Nothing would EVER happen (he has a gf and I have Cash), but it wasn’t surprising that we hooked up in one of my dreams.

In fact, all of my naughtier dreams seem to be that way – they’re with people I find attractive in real life, but would never hook up with for one reason or another.

Still, even my naughtiest dreams are pretty tame compared to my actual sex life. Now, my day dreams, my fantasies? They’re a little hotter…

This Week’s Question: How do you handle a breakup?

Don’t worry! Cash and I are absolutely fine. I just thought this would be a fun question to answer this week.

I’m like to say that I handle breakups well. I’d like to say that I think rationally about things and know that everything works out for the best. I’d like to say that breakups don’t have a ripple effect on the rest of my life.

I’d also like to say that I’m a bajillionaire with her own private island.

Truth be told, I put a ton of work into my relationships, so when something doesn’t work out, I’m usually devastated. And I can go a little crazy. Not “burn down your house” crazy, but like “dye my hair and hibernate in bed eating ice cream for a week while I cry like crazy.”

I can be a little dramatic.

I hear this song the other day and just had to laugh because it sums me up pretty well:

For over a year now, I’ve been asking you questions here on the Between My Sheets blog every Tuesday in the “Rori Asks” feature. And for over a year, you’ve been giving me your answers. Some of you stop by week after week to answer. Others stop by only occasionally to answer the question, and still others…most of you in fact…just lurk.

I suspect that most of you lurk because you don’t feel comfortable giving a public answer or because the question just doesn’t interest you. But some of you…maybe even you, the person reading this right now, haven’t answered any of my “Rori Asks” questions because you know it doesn’t matter. No one is listening anyway.

At least that’s how it feels. This week, I was reminded of just how crappy it feels when people ask for your opinion or help, but then forget to listen to your answer.

And I think I’m guilty of that as well. On this blog, I try very hard to listen to every since reader who leaves a comment or emails me, but in life I’m not always so successful. I like to talk about myself, I’ve found. I don’t think this comes from a place of arrogance or self-indulgence, but rather from a place of loneliness.

I talk and talk and talk because…I don’t want you to hang up the phone or leave the table or close out the browser when reading my blog.

I’m afraid of the silence.

I like quality alone time, but there’s a difference between being alone and being lonely. There’s a difference between the quiet reflection of your day and the terrifying quiet when know one cares about you.

I know people care about me. Cash is so madly in love with me that I can’t help but smile and my family is super supportive and shows their love more than most. I’m even blessed to have a few wonderful friends who make a point to call me up, just to see how I’m doing. Many people don’t have those things in their life.

But I’m still terrified.

I didn’t always have those things, and sometimes I slip into old habits of talking too much because I think, if I can just find the right words, you’ll like me. I need someone to like me, just a little.

And so, I forget to listen. I’m worried that if I do, there will be only silence.

Dear readers, I love that you take part in Rori Asks every week, whether you actually comment with your answers or just lurk. I hope you never take my chattering for not caring, and I hope you never worry my quietness in listening to your answer means I’m not listening at all.

This Week’s Question: Does age really matter?

When I was driving home the other day, the radio DJs were discussing people who date or marry people who are a lot older or a lot younger. They were discussing how it is usually older men marrying younger women, but the opposite can also be true.

What do I think about the age thing? Well…I really don’t know. My gut reaction is suspicion that the older person is taking advantage for sex or that the younger person is taking advantage for money/power. I think this comes from the fact that a lot of times when I see a huge age gap, it’s with celebrities, where there’s an older, famous man dating a younger, unknown woman.

But in every day life, I’m not sure it matters. Sometimes people fall in love despite circumstances that should keep them apart, like an age gap. I still worry that one person is taking advantage of the other, but at the end of the day, it’s really none of my business as long as the relationship is between two consenting adults.

There’s also the question of how much of an age gap is too much. Two people just a few years apart physically can be decades apart mentally. Plus, the older you get, the less of a difference it seems to make. Someone who is 40 who is marrying a 20-year old seems extreme. Someone who is 55 marrying a 75-year-old doesn’t sound nearly as extreme.

It’s a hard question for me to answer. Cash and I are less than a year apart, but if I were single, I would have to say that yes, age does matter to me, for one main reason: I want to grow old with someone. I’m sometimes attracted to older men, and I don’t think that me as a 28-year-old having a relationship with someone 50 or older is “gross.” But I have to look at it practically. I want a family in the next 5-10 years. If I’m 35 when I have a child, that mean a guy who was 50 when we met would be 57. He’d be 75 when the kid graduated high school, and if he was even around to see his grandchildren at all, he probably wouldn’t get to enjoy time much time with them.

Even without kids in the equation, the fact of the matter is that someone who is twice my age is not going to be around when I’m a senior citizen. That’s life. Do I really want to be starting over or alone when I’m hitting retirement age? I know, I know, tomorrow is not a guarantee and any of us can die at any time. But dating someone older makes that possibility a certainty.

And beyond that, I want to experience firsts with people. I want to own my first house with someone, I want to experience travel first with something, etc. Someone who is a lot older than me would have likely experienced a lot in life already, much more than me.

I’m not sold on huge age gaps (for me). Sometimes love just isn’t enough. I think your lifestyles have to match up too. I don’t begrudge anyone else for dating someone much older or much younger, but I think a 10-year age gap is my personal limit, and even that is pushing it! (Luckily, I don’t have to worry about such things now that I have Cash, but if I did…)

This Week’s Question: What do you use to get off?

When I was young and first started to masturbate, I didn’t realize the plethora of…shall we say tools…to help with this act. Sure, I realized there was porn out there, but I was a teen living with my conservative parents. I wasn’t about to log onto a raunchy website to watch people fucking. Even if I had been so daring, we had dial up Internet. Not so great for getting off.

So instead, I read the steamy parts of books. I didn’t have any true erotica of course, but I read the love scenes in mainstream fiction over and over (I was an advanced reader, so by the time I was 12 or so, I was reading novels from the adult fiction section of the library). My love affair for erotica began out of necessity.

Later, I began to enjoy naughty pictures, and I definitely moved on to movies. That seems to be the natural progression: words, images, movies. The next step is live shows, and I have to say, I do like the voyeuristic feeling of watching live cam shows, though not enough to actually pay for them (I only watch free stuff).

Still, I have a special place in my heart for the written word. Erotica is just so yummy. And I’m not just saying that because I write erotica. I really do enjoy reading top sex blogs that feature naughty stories. Whether they’re fiction or not, there’s just something that seems so forbidden and secretive about erotica that really makes me love it.

And you know…sometimes I don’t use anything at all. Sometimes I just close my eyes and let my imagination take over!
